They appear to be spectacular cars and I'd love a new 9-5 too but it's a massive gamble with between $30K-$40K of after-tax income and it's not one I'm willing to take.
Will a bank even finance a car from a manufacturer that's about to go belly up? Doubtful, so you'd have to pay cash for it, or arrange dealer financing at extortionate rates (this driving up the true cost of the car).
You'd have to have a seriously good indy lined up and he may never get the full software packages that would allow him to effectively work on the car.
I'd fear taking the car more than a few hundred miles away from that indy in case something does break and you're stuck. Imagine driving cross country and your car takes a dump in western Kansas. You're screwed.
The few parts that will be available will be blisteringly expensive. And, yes, forget it if you need a Saab-exclusive part, or an instrument cluster, for example.
Then again, a month or so ago, a dealer in NJ had a 2011 4-cyl with a manual transmission for under $28K. Tempting...
