Hi everyone,
With the recent string of bad news, I'm going to be very sad to see Saab go. That being said, with the inventory of 9-5s still available, I'm seriously considering picking up one of the more "loaded" 9-5 Aeros. I was having a discussion with several automotive loving friends, and there seems to be the common view that parts availability for these new cars will be mixed. Powertrain, some electrics, transmission, etc. are all sourced from other manufacturers who aren't going out of business. On the other hand, if you break a tail light or tear a piece of interior trim, you're stuck.
You have to assume that dealers will be liquidating these cars over the next few months. To own the last of the breed would be both sad, but also very cool in my opinion.
Then there is the reasoning around keeping it as low mileage as possible, versus using it as a normal car and just dealing with whatever wear items come up.
Is this a suicide play on my part? My guess is there won't be any warranty support from Saab Cars North America (if they end up existing at all).
I'm not worried about the older cars...parts for these cars seem plentiful, from what I can see so far.
Cheers,
Paul H.
