I have a 10+ year old LinkSys hard wired router that just keeps going. I wanted to upgrade to wireless so I could use my laptop in locations other than the kid's abandoned bedrooms which have RJ45 jacks, and the kids have a LOT of wireless gadgets they use when they come to visit.
I remember my old router coming with an 80+ page installation manual that I read cover-to-cover three or four times before installing the router. I only needed 5 or 6 pages of instructions but they were scattered throughout the manual.
The new router comes with three step instructions which I knew were incomplete. Load CD, Select Start-Up, Follow on screen instructions. No mention of Step Zero - disconnect old router and plug PC directly into modem while new router sits unpowered near-by.
Even the on-line FAQs and install hints are worthless!
