Rustcheck and protecting collectible car from rust Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Sun, 11 Sep 2011 11:02:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 2001 Laser Red Viggen which is in pristine condition. I store it for the winters and it is rust free (so far as I can tell...). People tell me it looks like in show room condition.
I used to think that if the car doesn't see winters, it shouldn't ever (or for a long time) rust. I think I'm wrong and simply moisture creeping in to parts of the car can cause rust where it goes in to tiny cracks in the paint.
My question is, what's to be done in order to "save" it from rusting? The underbody looks so nice and red and clean that I don't really want to mess up with the gooey stuff, but I'm starting to think it's the better way! I don't want to drill any holes in the car (other car had it done by previous owner and it ironically started to rust there). Besides, I don't trust those guys much unless they are very reputable, which isn't so much the case where I live.
What sort of things does one do then, in order to stop rust from forming?
There are lots of collectors and I presume they all worry about it.
Thanks for sharing your input.
