For the 3.0t motor, the 60k timing belt service is a pain, I agree. Expensive too, when done right: t-belt, tensioner, pulleys.
However I am unaware of longevity problems with this motor unlike the older V6's SAAB used. Anecdotally, I have 110k on mine without a hiccup and I regularly see these cars north of 150k. Any hard data to look at?
If an owner were to do *only* the t-belt every 60k then I could imagine bad results which might lead to poor longevity... but still, that would be traceable to the owner's (in)action.
