David,
Your suggestion would work if I had comprehensive on my car but I just had liability, meaning that if I wreck and it's my fault then they pay the other party. But this isn't about my insurance because I'm not at fault.
I don't want to pay comprehensive on that car as I feel it is worth about $2k, over time that doesn't make sense. But I will likely now compare prices between comprehensive vs. liability for the fleet now to see what the difference is. As I've stated before in previous threads, if I wreck my own car, then tough cookies for me, I'm SOL but my insurance will still pay out the claim to the other party.
The plain and simple fact is that one of USAA's drivers wrecked my car and she was at fault. Her insurance company, USAA, needs to make it right which means they find a replacement car or pay me a fair value for it. Simple, end of story. What they did instead was offer me a lowball figure that they refused to budge on regardless of what kind of comps, receipts and invoices I gave them.
