You have to assume you'll have no warranty. Just by reading posts on this topic over the last several months, it seems the typical person values the warranty at more than $15,000. Is this rational? I'd say no. For a car with a retail of $40k, what are the odds of you needing a major repair within the warranty period? Statistically, it's got to be much less than 10%, and it would cost probably less than $10k. That equates to a value of about $1000 for that portion. Small repairs will likely be required, and they might amount to $1000-$2000. I can pretty much guarantee that when a car maker is factoring in warranty claims into their production cost, it's considerably less than 10% of the retail price of the car. If you're getting something like 25% or more off of retail, I'd say that's a pretty good deal even without a warranty. Look at it from the opposite point of view. If a car's base price was $25k without a warranty, and you had the option to purchase a warranty for $15k, or even $10k, would you do it?
As for higher insurance due to inability to replace body panels, ask for a quote from your current provider. I'd be surprised if that's the case. If it's too high, you could always just decline collision coverage and try not to cause a collision; this is what I do with my cars. Insurance is a racket anyway.
