much like our Saabs, our current toaster was "bought" used... I suppose the difference is it was actually completely free... friends of ours were going to toss it when they moved just to not have to pack it...
though it's imperfect now, it's lasted 10 years for us with almost no preventative maintenance! I'm not sure I will perform a diy heating element swap or anything once it finally burns out, even though it is rust free...
imho, for the most part (aesthetic reasons aside), there's probably not a lot of value in a fancy toaster... most of it is probably just up-selling the same basic Chinese-made junk...
