absolutely, less should go wrong, for the next couple of years while they are still pretty new... My concern with the new 9-3 is where he said he will need to maintain it diy, when it breaks, it will likely be harder to fix than something like a 9000 or c900 (or even 9-5)... not impossible, but lots more electronics + Tech 2 needs... in a c900, when the CEL comes on, it's 99.9% the O2 sensor, and the code is read (+reset) under the back seat with no special tools! the key can be cut at any hardware store (vs people stranded at the moment with 9-3 key problems... waiting...). High quality shocks cost half as much... etc etc... of course it is possible some parts sources may dry up sooner on an older car also...
Once the older cars get "sorted out", they tend to have fewer repair needs once again. But it's true that the PO may have left a lot of things + much work might be needed on an older car!
for most of the population (uninclined to repair their own cars), I agree, the 9-3 would be a better choice. More reliable with less user knowledge required, safer, faster, + more creature comforts...
James...
