"Rather, they're planning to buy a $45k car and they place more value on the cool tech, exclusivity, and yes perhaps the ability to spend less on gas than they do the performance and luxury of whatever else is available at that price." See link for three different Lexus hybrids available for $45K or less. None of these are huge volume cars, but I have a feeling that they are doing better than the Volt.
I am failing to see how a Chevy that looks like a Cobalt with LED tail lights gives any aura of cool tech and exclusivity. Perhaps if they sold this as a Cadillac, or forged new directions for Buick, maybe. To me, the marketing for this car is severely flawed. And their product placement is laughable: being used as a police car on "The Mentalist" vs. a Citroen DS20 - which one grabs my attention?
