One thing though that I have always wondered about and that we will never find out is if these parts with ground off genuine names are rejects from production lines or perfect parts sold on the side.
Because in all parts production you have batch control testing and if a certain percentage of parts fail, they reject that whole batch.
Doesn't mean it is anything seriously wrong with the part but it is not up to Saab's set standard.
So what happens with those ready made parts that are rejected?
When I worked at Norma ammunition factory in Sweden they got back several pallets of ready for sale boxed up ammunition for long range target shooting that didn't hold the promised accuracy.
Real professional shooters complained that the bullet spread was greater than it should be and they knew it was not themselves since they knew their own capabilities.
So here you had this semi perfect working ammo and they gave it away to their employees who many them self were shooters.
I certainly was not good enough shooter to know the difference and it gave me free ammo for a long time.
Since it is a little bit dangerous to grind off the company name on the casing right next to the primer I guess they couldn't really sell them in "white boxes" on the open market. ;o)
