I like the lobster movie plot.

At this point, with a crumbling dealer network, supply chain, unemployed/unpaid workforce, and an empty factory (nevermind GM IP), it's going to take a lot of $$ to get it all going again *and* float it until it's profitable: ie when the new 9-3/900 is in production + selling like hotcakes! Let's say (cue Dr. Evil) a billion dollars... that's tough to raise as a grass roots exercise (a thousand people come up with $1M each? a million contribute $1k each?), and then you'd need someone to run the whole thing...

More + more, I'm agreeing with Tim, though I hate to admit it... a BMW acquisition to produce a Phoenix 9-3 hatch/vert under the Saab name in Trollhatten (and possibly along side that, excess production capacity for BMW's rwd sedans) would probably be the best case for me now... addresses the supply chain, dealer network, credibility concerns, and cash needs for development with no need to produce in the interim. As Tim points out, the SAAB name addresses BMW's need for fuel efficient cars without diluting the BMW rwd heritage. I have no idea if BMW is even thinking along those lines... I'm not sure that there is another euro brand that has a similar situation. Most (VAG, Fiat, et al) have low end + high end brands + some of those are pretty overextended...

It's going to be a major uphill battle for a Chinese company to take over what's left of Saab, and bring it back to market in the USA... I won't say it can't be done, but it's going to be a long haul requiring deep pockets, that's for sure!

James...
