Depends on how much work and money you want to put into it. Anything can be transplanted but most of the time it doesn't make sense unless you are doing some special built car.
In this particular case it sounds like it is to save money.
The 89 9000 will not fit since the bell housing and bolt pattern are different.
A 94 and up 9000 would get closer and it is some people that have taken a 94 and up B234 engine block and slapped the B235 cylinder head, intake manifold and exhaust manifold on there but I don't think I have heard about using the complete B234 with cylinder head since it is too many differences and it might upset the fuel injection system.
