I've noticed that in my 125 year old house, all the copper pipes are type M, which is not rated for supply lines, at least by today's standards. I suspect these pipes were installed about 25 years ago. Should I be concerned enough to do anything about this? Was there a time when type M was considered acceptable for supply lines? If I'm re-doing plumbing in the bathroom, is there any point in using type L pipes, if all the pipes leading up to it are only type M? I was able to salvage some rerouted pipes from the basement that I could use instead of buying new, but they are of course the same type M pipes.
