My ex-Brother-in-Law nearly cut his foot off with a chain saw a few years back. The throttle was released but the chain was still running as the saw tip hit his heavy leather work boots.
He did all the PT following surgery and regained 100% use of his foot and ankle. He had a cousin in Iowa who did someting very simlar with a chainsaw but who refused to follow the PT instructions. The cousin will be limping and/or using a cane for the rest of his life.
