One possibility: not sure what other programs you are using at work, but I use Quickbooks to run my business and process credit cards. I recently upgraded to a new computer and started having intermittent issues processing payments (a significant issue!) - the help desk knew exactly what was causing this, has me downgrade to an older version of Explorer. Note that I never browse using Explorer, but it is part of their program to set up an IP transaction with their server. Apparently, every time MSFT upgrades their browser, they have similar issues - your IT department probably doesn't see that there is a benefit vs. the issues that they will have to address.
