Since it's a '96 there is almost surely a fitting on the fuel rail to test fuel pressure. Use a screwdriver (and eye protection) to relieve any pressure in the rail, then try started it again. Check for pressure again. If none, chances are you have a bad fuel pump.
However, the lights on the mirror are a weirdness, and would have nothing to do with a bad pump. Probably not an immobilizer issue, as the immobilizer surely disables the starter. If it cranks, it's not the immobilizer. Maybe just a bad alternator or battery, and there isn't enough juice to start the car? Hot weather kills stuff like that.
