You can get it at any hardware store. It's usually near the paint-thinners. I first used it to remove a painted pinstripe on my 9-5. It also works wonders on pine sap.
The key is to let it soak into the goo so it can dissolve it. If you get most of the sticker off, fold a paper towel in half, soak it with denatured alcohol, and stick the paper towel over the residue. It dries very fast, so you can buy a cheap spray bottle and fill it with the stuff to keep the towel saturated. After soaking in for a couple minutes the goo will wipe right off. If it leaves a haze, just go back at it with a soaked paper towel again. It's just residue from the adhesive.
I know it's safe on clear-coated paint. As far as untreated plastics and rubber trim pieces, I'm not sure, but I didn't have any trouble. Just don't let it contact for prolonged periods of time.
