I have an issue with any sport that has subjective scoring in whole or part (so gymnastics, diving, etc and in the Winter Olympics figure skating, some of the skiing events and some of the scoring in long jump, etc.). Not that they do not take a lot of skill or ability or athleticism, just the way they are scored leaves a bad taste in my mouth, (plus is it really a sport where there is any emphasis on a costume, or accompanying music or choreography!). That said, because as a kid, I did grow up watching the skating, diving & gymnastics with my family (plus I took some gymnastics as a kid, as did my sister, and my daughters have and my sister dove in high school) I do have a soft spot in my heart for those, and did go see a day of woman’s gymnastics at the 1996 Atlanta games, (the only thing reason I didn’t see diving was couldn’t work it into the schedule).
All the synchronized events are really bad and have to go as does rhythmic gymnastics.
