The Olympics in general are a massive sham, and should go. Failing that, the events most in need of axing are all the judged events, followed by all the redundant events, e.g. ridiculous number of swimming events that allow one guy to get 22 medals doing almost exactly the same couple of things 10 times each, and being lauded as the greatest athlete of all time simply because of the number of medals he has. Imagine if they had multiple different 100m running races, but in some you have to run sideways, some you have to have your arms held at your sides, some you have to run backwards. Or imagine four different high jump events, one where you do a scissor jump, one where you do the fosbury flop, one where you dive head first, and one where you do a complete back flip. I know there are multiple running events, but those clearly require different kinds of skills and training, as evidenced by the fact that no one ever comes close to winning at more than two distances (and rarely even then). It's clearly not the case with all the swimming events, as there have been multiple athletes who've been able to dominate in multiple events.

Just dive into the stupid pool, and get to the finish line as fast as you can. If one style is the best, then the rest are pointless. In my opinion, one gold medal in the Decathalon or Triathalon trumps 20 gold medals in assorted swimming events.
