Make something. Stock enough parts to run for a while. Then when the item dies people just replace it, which drives more revenue than stocking low demand parts.
Since relatively few people repair anything these days it makes more sense for a company to do this than make & inventory small batches of parts. It just sucks for the consumer.
The sort of exception is sub-assemblies that are common to many devices, like icemakers in refrigerator. There are a few standard versions that fit many fridges.
