Sounds like a fun project. Try it and see if you get any detonation - you might be fine. I remember an old magazine article where they got a rental Neon into the 13s with a huge dry nitrous shot without blowing the motor (though this probably isn't advisable).
Premium gas should provide a bit of a safety margin (I assume it's designed to run on regular), as would knocking back the timing a few degrees which is probably easier than messing with the mixture assuming it has a distributor.
It should be possible to adjust the mixture though (disclaimer - I don't know squat about Toyotas). Check if the MAF has an adjustment screw (it may be under a cover). That would be the easiest. Otherwise you might be able to run some a resister inline with one of the MAF wires. I bet one of the Toyota 'tuner' forums could actually help here.
Finally, post some videos of sliding this thing around in the dirt on nitrous.
