Most companies just close up shop and withdraw from the market. I'm thinking of Fiat in the 80's and Peugeot in the 90's. Was Suzuki-US not a wholey-owned subsidary of Suzuki-Japan? Sure, they save a few bucks by stiffing their US creditors, but I believe it is the parent company that is on the hook for maintenance and waranty, not the US company. Now they have to set up a new distribution system and buy their own parts back from their creditors.
