seats, suspension and some extra poke in the engine room are important.

Toyota seems to be putting it's small car performance efforts into the Scion FR-S, and keeping Corolla as a mainstream econobox. They have Lexus as the luxury line. It's just somewhat surprising that they don't do something with Camry as a mid-range performance sedan, something for which there is a market. The car is actually a pretty good platform. (We need to remember the Saabs most of us like best --and the ones we drive-- have all been tweaked with aftermarket stuff.)

It may well be that Toyota just doesn't see the market as being big enough to justify the development and marketing costs.

As much as I love my Saabs, being able to get go-fast parts easily and get the higher reliability of the various subsystems in a car would be nice. And it would probably be more affordable than some of the alternatives from Europe. Bimmers, Mercs, and Audis are generally above my pay-grade. There's domestic stuff, too, that has promise, like the Fusion and Focus. My niece has a Pontiac G8, which is one nice machine. But Pontiac is also gone.
