OT: French Interpretation Help Needed Posted by EGD [Email] (#663) [Profile/Gallery] (more from EGD) on Sat, 5 Jan 2013 18:54:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Doing some genealogical research from Quebec archives and I've come across some words my six years of French study 35 years ago can't quite handle.
The documents are from parish records from Quebec in the early- to mid-1700s:
1) '...prenant sur le devant sur le bord de la riviere Ste-Anne, vers le sourest et vers le nordest aux terres de la dite seigneurie...'
What does 'sourest' mean? I'm unsure what kid of compound word 'sou' and 'rest' would make. I have some ideas but they don't quite seem to fit. Any help would be appreciated.
2) '... avec les batiments qui sont sur ycelle et toutes les appartenances...'
I have never, ever seen the word 'ycelle' but it appears in many documents so is not a typo. Another compound word from 'y' and 'celle.' Please help.
TIA!
