I'm doing it because I am trying to get to roughly the 300-320 crank hp mark, and getting a 2.5-3" exhaust is one of my only remaining hardware upgrades. I have spent a lot of money on this, plus other recent expenses (refinishing my BBS wheels, new tires, all new front suspension components, to name a few), and right now I think this is a smart corner to cut, as I am getting a 3" system out of it, and all but the turndown will be usable when I decide to route it all the way to the bumper. Between two band clamps, a Magnaflow muffler, and a turndown, I'm into it for $150, which is a lot less than say the GS system (which is comparable in performance only, I realize you're getting a lot more included with that system)
The only real question that I have regarding this decision is how much exhaust gas will make its way into the car when sitting still. I'm going to verify it with a CO meter, and if it is present in any non-negligible amount, I'll drop the cash and get it routed all the way back.
