The pressure is delivered by a pump, so the injector only opens a small valve, with the engine valves the mass is much greater, and the range is also much greater. Plus with pnumatics you can also install redundancy, 2 valves for each actuator, so even if a air valve fails, the effects will not cause any valve damage. I think the potential for energy recovery is also excellent:
Air to open exhaust valve from reservior (higher pressure). Air to close Exvalve from Ex valve opening circuit -> ex valve closing circuit (slightly lower pressure) -> Air to open intake valve from Ex closing circuit (slightly lower yet again)->intake valve closing from intake opener circuit(lowest pressure yet) -> air back to compressor.....using this, it will require very little energy to operate the valves.
