I'm afraid my experience with Volvos goes back to 850's--I had 2 and liked them a lot. I also had 2 960 wagons and a 740 turbo wagon and 740 non turbo. I liked them all. I've always said if there were no Saabs I'd gladly have a Volvo and well guess what... They produced the 850 as V70s? for quite some time, might still make it for all I know. I do know the S80 has been troublesome--the S60 however seems to be well though of. A week or two ago they had a multi-car test on Motor Week for cars costing $43K. They had the latest BMW 3 series, Audi A4, the new Cadillac ATS, an Acura, a Volvo S60 and one or two others. The BMW was the fastest and won the contest. To everyone's surprise, the Volvo was second fastest and also came in second. But it was also the cheapest by quite a bit and that included the optional AWD. Certainly worth a look if they're thinking new.
