the basic system is the same as most other cars.
The tricky part is the fact that the high low pressure sensor, exterior and interiro temps are fed into the ACC computer, and the to the engine ECU and then the ECU creates the ground for the A/C compressor relay.
Also you have the levers and servos running the doors etc in the HVAC box, these are run by the ACC computer and can have mechanical problems in the servos and arms.
All of the above can me a mystery to the A/C shop these days. Each computer system is different and complex.
I use a good A/C shop that I love. Very good and reliable and they can build hoses etc.. But I have had to solve the computer and blend door problems.
On my 2001 Aero I brought it in and the compressor would not run. no ground at the A/C relay. Took me a couple of months to track it down to the wires on the condenser pressure swith that had been torn off. soldered them back up and he serviced the system fine. But I had to find out why the computers were not supplying ground.
On my son's Aero he had a compressor seize. We got a bid but it was high, so I bought a compressor from thesaabsite, and a dryer from another site and had my A/C guy install those and service the car. Saved probably $1000 by searching for the parts and buying ourselves and having them installed. My A/C guy was appaled at the price of a compressor and dryer though his sources, but by going to known Saab suppliers I could be high quality at a reasonalble price.
