My 142S had the Borg Warner automatic transmission, which besides being hard-shifting and blowing its front seal on a camping trip, made the car incredibly SLOW. As a contemporary comparison, my roommate had a 1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible with a 350 CID engine. Had to keep the twin SU carbs filled up with hydraulic fluid or the car ran horribly - kept a small squeeze bottle filled with it in the trunk. Lots of body roll, which can now be addressed with add-on sway bars. I spent a few summers in my navy blue 142S in St. Louis, and it would have made an excellent pizza oven - rear windows popped out about two inches at the rear for minimal ventilation.
On the other hand, it was a relatively simple car and was fairly easy to maintain - I did a head gasket job in my parking lot with simple hand tools.
