Taught our youngest how to drive a stick last night Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 17 Sep 2013 03:31:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Our only manual transmission car is the Viggen, and he is 31 - older than some of the regular posters here. I had sold my S-10 pickup with 4-speed manual a couple years before either son started Driver's Ed because they had out grown the jump seats in the extended cab, which gave them no opportunity to learn shifting on one of Dad's cars until now.
He was surprised it was not more difficult, and I was surprised that apparently none of his friends have driven a stick either. I was convinced that some of the farm boys would have experience driving a recalcitrant old stake truck with a manual but I guess not.
He is considering buying a Camaro with a manual trans and wanted to learn before he purchases a car. Have to wait to see what he actually buys to replace his old GrandAm. He was lamenting how few vehicles are available with manual transmissions now - he told me that even the new Chevy SS (his choices not mine) is available with an automatic only.
I learned how to drive a stick 40 years ago when three of my High School friends 'liberated' a Datsun Pickup and the four of us all cramed into the bench seat cab to teach ourselves how to drive a stick. I don't know if they ever told the truck's owner....
