The 911, like them or not, are among the most iconic sports cars ever made. Instantly recognizable. You see a 1963 911 parked next to a new one and there is no doubt they are related.
For 50 years they have remained true to a certain ideal, even if it seems misplaced to some. Sure, they used to be not much more than hot-rodded Beetles, but these days they are very refined cars. Take a Boxster S or 911 Carrera out for a spin and see what they're like. Are they hard to drive really well at the limit? Yep. Are they overpriced and over-rated? Are a bunch of theier owers snobby asshats? Definitely. but the same can be said BMWs, Mercedes, Ferraris and some of their owners. And the Corvette, for that matter. The Porsche 911 is hardly a car for everyone, but neither is any high-end sports car.
What's too bad is that Porsche hasn't always paid attention to details that have caused costly repairs for some owners, but that's not uncommon among German marques.
