It's a two story house and all the mechanical are in the basement. So water has to go up about 2.5 stories?
I've only been refilling through the automatic fill valve. It has a manual fill lever. It does have a back-flow prevention valve before it as well as a ball valve. I closed the ball valve at the end of last year's heating season to see if the pressure loss slowed or stopped, thinking that's the only place I could be losing water if I'm not seeing it anywhere. There was no change. It's obviously not providing any kind of automatic fill function so maybe I'll have them replace that when they come for the annual service.
I'll check the expansion tank now that I'm familiar with what's going on in there. I vaguely remember touching the bottom of it and it was hot. But I'm not positive. I'll try to play around with some of the suggestions here tonight.
Thank you everyone for your input!
