get a rifle and shoot them. (note here that I don't own any type of firearm and haven't fired a gun in >30 years). I just don't particularly like cats (except for our local ferral one, RIP, Jet).
But whacking the kitty is probably illegal and might annoy your neighbors. A pellet gun would be a little friendlier and also works on other vermin. Of course you have to stay up late to wait for them to show up and it will help if you're a good shot.
More practically, get some coyote or fox urine, which is available at stores like Agway or Blue Seal if you live in/near a rural area, or at a good hardware store. Maybe even Home Depot. You'd sprinkle it around the perimeter of your fenced area. You need to reapply as it will wash off in rain and over time, but this does work for pests like cats.
