I fully understand your approach--they have many of the virtues Saabs used to have--well built, simple, economical etc. To be honest I wish someone sold a similar car new. But they aren't as perfect as they might seem. You don't say where you live, but they aren't very good in snow. They do have some mechanical issues--Wheeler Dealers did an episode on one a few years back, see if you can catch it on Youtube. I know they replaced the steering rack and I seem to recall there were some other known issues. Major parts/repairs are still pricey. I could sort of see one if you didn't commute very far and didn't live in an urban area. Keeping up with modern traffic would be a serious safety issue, at least here in Crazy Town. I think that ultimately driving one would get very old quickly. A newer, more powerful MB diesel would be more livable and every bit as long lasting/economical.
