The main issue I have with Walmart...

...is actually that they revolutionized shopping with significant impact to the way of life in many small towns (and even cities)... ie, sprawling big box stores on the edge of town that kill off the older smaller downtown shops... Sure, it's business and fair enough, but it does have downsides. Eg it leads to a very car dominated world, and less walkable neighbourhoods... but I see this turning around little by little... I think more and more people are realizing this and choosing to try to support smaller stores when possible. I'm guilty of the big box thing too, but I'm trying to improve in that regard when possible!

That's basically my spin on it... and lest anyone accuse me of being on one side of the spectrum, while I'm no fan of Walmart, I'm really no fan of unions either: with the exclusion of situations where workers really are being taken advantage of, imho they encourage apathy and disinterest and discourage motivation... good businesses know they need to compensate employees appropriately, that a good workforce is valuable, and in that situation, there is no need for unions...
