Depends on who you use and how close your broker is in communication with the actual trucking company. Sometimes the person/company you contact is a broker who contacts another broker who might be in direct contact with the truck company. Its extremely rare to talk directly to the truck company. The more and more layers, the more expensive it becomes as everyone takes their cut.
Brokers mainly use http://www.centraldispatch.com/ as a dispatch platform for trucks so the truck you had scheduled surely wont be the same that will end up coming. If your lucky some truck companies also run their own dispatch service (recently I used Bee Transport who had their own dispatch) so it was very direct. From when I called first to vehicle pickup was less than 48 hours. They gave a two hour window when they would arrive and were dead on time. It ran only $400 to ship a '64 96 from DOOR to DOOR in Central Florida to Central PA. It was super cheap because it was sent during the snowbird season when the transports are getting $1200 a car down and sometimes going back north partially empty.
