Shipping a car cross country

Last month I purchased a classic 900 Turbo Airflow located just outside San Francisco, and made arrangements to have it shipped to me here in Atlanta.
First it was supposed to be picked up "the 26th or 27th" of December.
How do you run a business not knowing where or when your trucks are going to be somewhere?
26th, truck didn't show up
27th, "truck broke down, we'll pick it up Monday or Tuesday".
30th, no truck
31st, "it will definitely be there today". No truck
2nd, "we're sending in another driver/truck, we don't know what happened. He'll be there today". No truck.
How the hell do you run a business this way?
