So today was the day to hop down into the garage and change oil and filter on "El Aguacate!" (1973 SAAB 96). Easy peasy right. As the oil gurgled out I grabbed the quart sized Fram filter, tipped it down and out and didn't spill a drop. I should have known something was up when the new filter snugged at two turns but I blythely put in a gallon of fresh oil. Didn't spill a drop. Started up the engine. Red light out. Oops red light on. Shut it off. Checked under the hood. Spilled a quart in at least four dimensions. After things had stopped dripping I pulled the new filter and removed the funky Fram rubber ring securely stuck to the filter housing. So easy to forget there are reasons the Fram has such a bad reputation.
