I just stumbled across this report titled "Nine Cars Americans Keep the Longest". Turns out an average owners keeps his Volvo for 7+ years. I guess this means that for every owner that leases his car for 3 years there is another one who buys it new and keeps it for 11 years. I am not sure whether it is good or bad for a brand - given the others brands in this list are mostly cars that depreciate most (Infinity is a strange exception).
What annoys me greatly is that after doing this research they do not publish the full list. Just the nine top brands - they don't even explain why "top nine" and not the more logical "top ten". I would love to see the numbers for BMW, Toyota, Lexus among others.
Anyway, the top nine list is:
1. Volvo 7.05 years
2. Jaguar 7.00 years
3. Buick 6.92 years
4. Mitsubishi 6.92 years
5. Lincoln 6.79 years
6. Infinity 6.10 years
7. Ford 6.02 years
8. Chrysler 6.10 years
9. Dodge 6.00 years
