No Saab is right... it’s a means test as the financial aid is being subsidized by the school or government... so they only want to give that preferential treatment to those who most likely have no other means of support, regardless if one's parents want to or not.

Think about it, the vast majority of every college graduate immediately going to grad school minimally has little to no real savings (if not a lot of debt). They all would qualify, (even if it meant a little financial engineering by the family lawyers & accountants so they would).

Sure since one can't get out of school debt in bankruptcy (because people with means were gaming the system) we could always just subsidize everyone... but there is little chance to get that funding through this Congress regardless of what the likes the Friedman’s & Hayek’s though & think of investments in education. heck they won't even tighten up the rules around the for profits that get 90%+ of income from subsized loans despite low graduation rates & high default rates costing tax payes billions because that would be governmental interference with the free market, (despite the fact its the government's money).

Trying to remember when I went back to school, but I don't think they asked me for my parents information. But then I was married and had to supply my mine & my wife's info. So if they’re not married offer to pay for a wedding or grad school, but not both.
