The 0W40 they sell is the "european formula" or whatever. It meets the criteria for the 9-5 etc. This is what SAAB says to put in, so given that the 9-5 is finicky about oil, I'm sticking with that. Crappy tire didn't used to carry it.
What is really really hard to find however is the correct drain plug washer! At least if you want a copper one. I drained the oil from the car and then realized I had used my last washer in the fall! Not only that, the car was parked in the driveway blocking the other SAABs... so all in all, not a great situation. The drain plug for the 9-5 has a bulge where the threads meet the head, such that a readily available M14 will not fit. M16 is too loose (could end up eccentric enough to leak). Nobody carries one with a 15mm hole locally. I checked! The standard part for the 9-5 is copper with a 15mm ID, 24mm OD, and 2mm thick. Will need to order more from eeuro! Anyway, for this oil change, I used a spare drain plug I had from the c900's (those work with M14) and a proper c900 drain plug washer with the rubber outer seal.
Was nice to finally have a warm afternoon without rain etc!
