Not sure of the squeal cause but I blamed the pads Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 31 Mar 2014 16:59:44 In Reply to: Wow . . Brakes would squeal in reverse when wet. The morning after washing the car, after a night time rain, even with heavy morning dew. The sound was horrific!
I used to start my day by leaving home around 4:45am, now with my new job I leave at 6:30am which is slightly better for my poor neighbors. No squeal this morning but the weather conditions may not have been such as to cause the problem even with the old pads.
The pads had Ate stamped into the heavy steel backing plate. The SAAB name was painted onto this same plate. The friction material was bonded to a very thin metal plate which in turn was bonded to the heavy backing plate. This thin plate had Akebono stamped into the metal. So I am guessing Ate made the pads using Akebono friction material and they were sold as an official Saab part. The new pads are Saab brand also but made by Textar.
