Today was the first nice day since October and I had great plans to do a whole bunch of maintenance items on all three cars. In four hours time all I was able to accomplish was:
- Swap winter for summer tires on the 9-5, and discover the summer tires are worn close to the wear bars
- Install new rear brake pads on the 9-5 to get rid of the horrible damp weather squealing in reverse. The old pads were labeled ATE, Akebono, and Saab - all three names on each rear pad!
- Oil and filter change on the 9-3. I had planned to replace the front sway bar links but discovered my old 3 ton jack would not lift the front of the car high enough to clear the tires off the floor when lifting from the front center.
- Install the PCV #6 kit on the Viggen. Whereby I also discovered I now suffer from vertigo. Laying on my back on the driveway, with my feet higher than my head due to the slope, peering through the lone vision spot beneath the car with my bifocals to see the bolts and hoses than must be removed to replace the oil trap, I found myself retching in the grass like a sick dog due to what must be a type of vertigo.
I still need to install the sway bar links on the 9-3, the coolant by-pass valve hose set on the 9-5, the steering rack kit, a larger rear anti-roll bar, new head bolts and valve cover gasket, a new transmission mount, and windscreen grommets, these last five all for the Viggen.
Oh well, at least I got a start.
