Depending on how old your laptop is, it might be easier to replace (most of) the laptop with an identical used one.
My Dell D410 is ancient, but does what I need it to very well. When one of the hinges for the display broke, I found I could get a new set of hinges for $30... or another D410 for $40 on ebay. So I bought the other laptop, swapped the hard drive and relatively new battery from the old laptop into it, and was set in about 10 minutes. Plus I've got the old laptop for spare parts... other than the hinges of course!
