O.T. Why is my propane torch impossible to ignite?

I have just a regular old "pencil" flame Worthington propane torch that I use for GP around the garage and lighting my grill. It is impossible to light. I bet can go through half of a flint before it will finally ignite. It will blow out a match or regular cigarette lighter. Last night I got so frustrated with it that I lit it on my gas stove. Even this took a really long time. What the heck am I doing wrong???
