My wife and daughters and I are heading from NH to Nova Scotia for a wedding. We're in the '03 9-5 wagon when it dies just north of Portland, Maine. My quick diagnosis says fuel pump.
I call AAA who wants to tow me to a Chevy dealer ("They work on Saabs," says the well-meaning AAA drone). I say "No, just send the truck, I'll tell him where to take us."
I pull up Saabnet on my phone, find the mechanics listing and see that there is a Saab shop with good reviews just 30 miles away. I call to see if he can fit us in. He says yes! AAA comes with a club-cab flat bed and off we go.
We get to Swedish Solution in Westbrook, Maine. Mike, the owner gave us a price immediately, and tosses me the key to a loaner. We went to lunch and his guys went to work. About 3 hours later we had gone to lunch and the car was ready. We were back on the road. (We still had 14 hours of driving ahead of us!). I was totally amazed and pleased. As were my wife and daughters. I was not excited about Plan B, which was leaving the car there and renting a car to get us to Canada and back. Swedish Solutions really turned a bad situation into a good one!
So Swedish Solutions: They are fast, honest, price fairly, know Saabs, and can absolutely be counted on.
I do about 90% of my own work and live well over 2 hours away, but If I lived near Portland Swedish Solutions would be my go-to shop for my 4 Saabs.
This is the second time the Saabnet Mechanics Listing has bailed me out on a road trip. It is invaluable! And AAA Premium is a must have if you have a car that is OOW or has a bunch of miles on the clock.
Now, at 132K miles, I hope the cash infusions for the 9-5 are done for a while. DId the alternator a month ago, a cat back exhaust, the serp belt, pulleys, tensioner. Now the fuel pump. Brakes are coming up before winter, but I'm hoping we can just drive this thing for a while! (as we have for much of the 8 years we've had it).
