are the first things to fail... connectors, switches, pots... when designing a circuit, good designers aim to minimize this stuff. Cars are just full of connectors, and not always very good ones (remember, there are bean counters involved)... in more critical situations (aircraft, military, etc), there is value in buying highly robust connectors... but those connectors cost a whole heck of a lot... but much less than the cost of a plane falling out of the sky on your resume.
Good thing they caught that!
