OT: "Bomerang" home repair scams during Holiday season Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 5 Dec 2014 09:27:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My mother in law may have been taken by one of these yesterday. She lives 150 miles from my wife and I in a mobile home park. Her other four kids all live in the same area, one son in her mobile home.
She had to call a plumber yesterday due to sewage backup in her home. The guy quoted her $10,000 to fix it claiming he would need to dig up the yard to replace the sewage pipe.
As he was driving away after providing only an estimate, the Park Maintenence man pulled up to ask what was wrong. He looked at the problem, quoted $400 for the repair
Relieved, my mother in law wrote him the check and he replaced a broken pipe.
After my wife relayed this tale I asked if the pipe was below ground, meaning the Park should be responsible rather than her mother. She didn't know. My guess is that the pipe was above ground but below the floor of her trailer. Meaning she paid $400 for one length of PVC pipe and two Fernco couplings!
Obviously the Maintenence Man is working with the extortionist plumber to rip off seniors. Warn any older members of your own families!
