Would you live without a car if you could?

We have a vacation/retirement condo that's in the down town area of the little tourist town we consider our home (but we live and work elsewhere). We can walk or bike to nearly everything. When we visit we pull into the garage and the car doesn't move until we leave. I absolutely love it. I find myself thinking more and more about how when we get to live there full time, I could almost get along without owning a car. I have a basket on my bike--with fenders, lights and a rain suit, I could use it a lot more. There's bus and cab service. And there are a couple of car rental companies. I could almost make it work if we had better mass transportation between towns (where my kids and grand kids live). Funny thing is one of my other favorite places in the world is Mackinaw Island where cars aren't even allowed (horses, bikes and walking only). People seem to be moving back to city centers, and I'm guessing it's for the same reasons. Even though I'm a gear head, the kind of driving I'm pretty much stuck with doing in urban areas really isn't what I'd call fun. So am I the only one here who thinks this way?
